VEHICLE RENTAL RESERVATIONS

Employees are encouraged to "shop around" since strong competition in the rental car market usually brings short duration sales in some local markets. Other programs (i.e. Travel & Transport, AAA or AARP discount programs) may provide cheaper rates than using the University's established discount programs.

Renting a Car in Nebraska & Surrounding States

If renting a car in Nebraska and the surrounding states, employees are encouraged to contact UNL's Tansportation Services to see if our local rates will be accepted by Rent-A-Car franchises. We have had success in getting our local rates accepted outside Lincoln, but since Enterprise is a regionally owned business, it may be an option for regional rentals only. It may be worth a try since our local rates through Transportation Services are very competitive.

Auto Insurance Coverage on Rental Cars

Regarding auto insurance on rental vehicles, the rule is simple: Decline all insurance coverage except for Liability Coverage. UNL will only reimburse the cost for liability coverage. When traveling under University business, the University's auto insurance covers rental cars.
